Raven Tricks – It’s All Wrong, Yet It’s All Right! (ISBN #978-09373959-0-5), is a lively collection of essays about those unanticipated twists of fate and fancy which ultimately govern all lives. While most of the stories involve humor, they spring from Barb's personal adjustment to the death of her soulmate. Many of these articles were previously published in magazines.

Raven Tricks is an easy, entertaining read, like an outing with a feisty old friend. Using personal situations as examples, Barb searches for the wisdom or humour and usually finds both. She chose a Trickster Raven depiction by acclaimed first nations’ artist, Lee Claremont for her book cover.

Often light-hearted and sometimes heartbreaking, these first-person vignettes deal with adjustment to the new truths that we all encounter as we age. The Raven Trickster of Haida folklore is responsible for those odd twists in the grand scheme of things that we never anticipate. He sees to it, for example, that when we can afford the things we need, we don’t need them anymore. When we reach an understanding with our VCR, the world switches to DVDs. When women finally develop full-figured bosoms, their faces are long-gone to hell.

Raven Tricks shares lessons from the joys, sorrows, outrages and serendipities which remind us that even though life may not turn out as we planned or would wish (It’s All Wrong), it is nevertheless a great adventure (It’s All RightI). The points of view are timely and provocative for an aging population; nevertheless, the book appeals to all ages. Launched in 2006, the book was rated “excellent” by Writer’s Digest.
